Le Sapin by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1857-1934) comes from a set of five piano pieces titled, “The Trees” also known as “The Tree Cycle”. The Spruce is No. 5 and is the most popular among pianists. It is a slow waltz with fast arpeggios that suit the harp perfectly, and is sensitive in a way that the “trees spoke to him.’ The other pieces in his collection are: The Rowan Blossom, The Solitary Pine, The Aspen and The Birch.
